The Warren County Lady Screaming Devils recently captured the Region 7-A Track Championship.
And Coach Marleau Blount couldn't be happier.
"Our kids deserved this because they worked so hard for it," said Coach Blount in a telephone interview. "I am tremendously proud of everyone on the team."
Several of the Lady Screaming Devils are now involved in competing in this week's Class A Girls' State Track Meet being held in Albany.
Warren County had several first place winners during the region track meet. They included:
- Candice Warthen, winner of the long jump and high jump;
- Tiandra Harris, 100 meter hurdles; and
- Lakerria Williams, triple jump.
The 400 meter relay team, which consisted of Ty Johnson, Williams, Shay Harris and Warthen.
Finishing second place was Warthen in the 100 meter dash; Jashanna Graves, 800 meter run; and Lashundria Reynolds, shot put and discus.
Placing third in the following events were: Jashanna Graves, the mile run; Ty Johnson, triple jump; and the 1600 meter relay team consisting of Johnson, Graves, Sondrea Hardin and Warthen.
Fourth place finishers included: Johnson in the 400 meter event, Tiandra Harris, 300 hurdles and Cedrica Bacon, discuss.
Fifth place finishers were: Harris in the 300 hurdles and the 1600 meter No. 2 team consisting of Mykia Carter, Tyneshia Tolbert, Lakerria Williams and Tykesia Harris.
Sixth place winners were: Ty Johnson in the 200 meters, Lakerria Williams in the long jump and the 400 meter relay team No. 2 team of Mykia Carter, Tyneshia Harris, Keisa Harris and Sondrea Hardin.
Warthen also won the region meet point trophy as the top individual performer.
