One month after Lisa Cody was relieved of her softball coaching duties at Thomson High School, the school system is making yet another coaching change.
Last week, school officials told THS baseball coach Brad Smith that he would no longer be coaching the team he has been in charge of for four years, said Superintendent of Schools Mark Petersen.
Dr. Petersen said "record, competitiveness and needing a change," were behind the move.
No replacement has been named, but legendary baseball coach Terry Holder said THS Principal Rudy Falana had contacted him about setting up a meeting to discuss the possibility of him coaching the Diamond Dogs. He added that a date for that meeting had not been set.
"I'm certainly happy with what I'm doing right now, but I learned a long time ago that when somebody wants to talk, you do need to listen," said Coach Holder, who teaches P.E. at Thomson Middle.
Coach Holder won more than 525 games in his career and was the first coach in Georgia to record 500 career wins. He won five state titles at Evans and three in his three years at Greenbrier.
This year, Coach Smith's team -- made up of mostly sophomores -- went 6-14. Last year, Thomson posted a 13-10 record, and in 2003, the Bulldogs went 13-7.
Coach Smith informed his players of the decision on Monday but declined to comment further, submitting a letter to the editor instead.
