LINCOLNTON, Ga. - Mr. Bert Louis Aycock entered into rest at Lake Crossing Health Care on May 11, 2006. He was 88.
Born in Wilkes County, Washington, he was the son of the late Lewis Jackson and Lucille Burgess Aycock. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Jackson Aycock. He served our country during World War II in Company G 323rd Infantry and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He retired as foreman of Talmadge B. Reed Logging. He was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent from 1964 until 1990.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Virginia Saggus Aycock; one son, Jimmy Bert Aycock and wife, Frances; two grandsons, Steed Aycock and J.L. Aycock, all of Lincolnton; one granddaughter, Carey Anne Aycock Cushman, Thomson; one sister, Agnes Aycock Witt of Greenwood, S.C., and several nephews and one niece.
Honorary pallbearers were Talmadge Reed, Kenneth Reed, Tab Reed, Olin Reed, Hawes Reed, Thomas Reed, Donald Reed, Neal Reed, Billy Reed, Ernie Moon, Walter Palmer, John Lanier, Gerald Lawson, Lee McClendon, Al Danner, Mac Holloway, Dr. Ben Moss, Pete Davidson, Rob Robinson, Stanley Parton, Ray Parton, Andy LaPlume, and Wille Albert Ferguson.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 13 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. T.G. Hall and Rev. Elton Lawson officiating.
Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
