AUGUSTA, Ga. - Ret. Maj. Wallace C. "Wally" Hitchcock, 80, husband of the late Suzanne K. Hitchcock, entered into rest Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital.
Maj. Hitchcock was a native of Catskill, NY, and resided in Augusta since 1963. He was a retired Major with the US Army, a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Major Hitchcock was a Public Information Officer at Fort Gordon, and Editor for Fort Gordon Signal and an Editor for the Stars and Stripes in Germany. He was also a journalist for the Atlanta Journal Constitution and The State newspaper. Maj. Hitchcock was a member of Catskill Lodge Masonic Order and St. Mark United Methodist Church where he was also a choir member, the Young at Heart Group and a member of the Methodist Men Fellowship.
Family members include his daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley H and Bob Keith of Thomson, Carol H. and Hollis Land of Thomson; son, Patrick J. Hitchcock of Augusta; grandchildren, Marie Evans, April Drew, Kimberly Keith, Kelli Caston, Lacey Land, Jody Hitchcock; six great-grandsons; brothers, Robert J. Hitchcock of Ohio, David Hitchcock of New York, Daniel Hitchcock of New York; sister, Joyce Kirtson of New York and special friend, Carolyn Moody.
Maj. Hitchcock was preceded in death by his son, Wallace C. Hitchcock, Jr.
Graveside services were held Monday, May 19, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Dane Wagner and Rev. Robert Gillespie officiating with Military Honors.
