The candles have burned out, the tents are down and the party's over until next year.
But the celebration continues as the official numbers are tallied for the results of the 11th annual McDuffie County Relay For Life.
"I'm happy to announce that as of 8:05 this morning, we have $220,000," Relay Co-Chair Bob Knox, Jr., announced at the closing ceremony Saturday morning. "Thank you all for your participation. It's been a great event. ... And it looks like we'll have a goat kissing in June."
During the survivors banquet a few days earlier, the American Cancer Society Manager Danielle Caldwell promised to kiss a goat if the McDuffie Relay raised $250,000.
When Ms. Caldwell wrinkled her nose and admitted that she didn't know where she would kiss the goat, survivor chairman David Ruehle was ready.
"I'm going to pick the goat and the spot," the McDuffie Veterinarian quipped.
