Philip and Sharon Pirkle, of Thomson, announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Leigh Pirkle, to James Douglass Grimes, son of James and Amy Grimes, all of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The wedding will be at 6 p.m. June 9 at the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Lee and Ruby Pirkle and the late Aubrey and Kiyoko Thomas, all of Waycross, Ga.
She is a 1998 graduate of Thomson High School and received her bachelor's degree in art and English at Mercer University. She received her M.F.A. in book arts from the University of Alabama in May. As a graduate student, she has received the Graduate Council Fellowship and is a current Windgate Fellow. She teaches at The University of Alabama.
The prospective groom is the grandson of James and Jean Grimes of Eclectic, Ala., and the late William and Dollie Roberts of Sylacauga, Ala.
He is a 1995 graduate of Central High School in Tuscaloosa, and received a B.F.A. in painting and a B.S. in biology from Birmingham Southern College. He received his M.A. in sculpture from The University of Alabama, and received his M.F.A. in May. As a graduate student, he received the National Alumni Association Graduate Fellowship. He is employed by The University of Alabama and Brooks & Brooks Inc. of Tuscaloosa.
