District Attorney warns of senior scam

Toombs Judicial Circuit District Attorney Dennis Sanders warned senior citizens this week about a Social Security scam. According to Mr. Sanders, several area seniors have received calls from individuals claiming to be from the Social Security Administration, and in fact they have obtained the seniors' Social Security numbers.

The caller states that a new card must be issued then asks for information on the senior's checks and bank. Mr. Sanders said people receiving a call similar to this should not share any personal information with the caller.

If people have already given any such information out, Mr. Sanders said they should inform local law enforcement and their bank.
