Mrs. Mattie Mae Matthews Tigner Pickard

THOMASTON, Ga. - Mrs. Mattie Mae Matthews Tigner Pickard was born August 25, 1921 in Tolberton, Ga., to Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Matthews. She transitioned from this life May 20, 2006 after a lengthy illness in the Providence Nursing Care Facility in Thomaston.

She confessed Christ at an early age in Tolberton. Later she joined Friendship Baptist Church in Thomaston.

She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Henry Thomas Tigner, Sr. To this union five lovely children were born, three of which preceded her in death. She was later joined to the late Mr. Mack C. Pickard. To this union, four lovely children were born.

Mrs. Tigner, affectionately known as "Miss Mattie Mae" was a well loved mother figure to all who knew her in the community of Lincoln Park and throughout the city of Thomaston. She possessed a warm, loving, caring and giving spirit and would do all that she could to help anyone who came to her in need. She will be greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory five sons, Mr. Johnny Tigner, Mr. Willie Tigner, Mr. Emory (Virginia) Matthews and Mr. Ulysses (Valerie) Pickard of Atlanta and Dr. Curtis (Cheryl) Pickard of Augusta; one daughter, Ms. Mary Searcy of Thomaston; a great-granddaughter whom she raised as a daughter, Miss Shanteria Mathis; one brother, Mr. Johnny Matthews, of Atlanta; 23 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
