Mr. James Vincent "Jim" Smith, Jr.
V.P. of Fossil Power

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. James Vincent "Jim" Smith, Jr., 56, Thomson, entered into rest May 23, 2007, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Joyce Ann Pruitt Smith.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 25, 2007, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel in Thomson. Interment followed at Westview Cemetery in Thomson. Pallbearers were nephews.

Mr. Smith was a native of Memphis, Tenn., and was the son of the late James V. Smith, Sr. and the late Betty Juanita Holden Smith.

Mr. Smith served as vice president of Fossil Power for Fluor's Power Services Group, where he was responsible for maintenance and capital projects for primary utilities clients in the U.S. After joining Fluor in 1979, Mr. Smith has held a variety of engineering, project and general management positions. He spent several years of his career as a project manager moving from location to location across the U.S.

Jim's interests in addition to spending time with his family were boating, golf and his vintage Corvette. Jim was lovingly referred to as "Poppy" by his two granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Pruitt Smith of Thomson; son, James Vincent Smith, III of Martinez; daughter, Jennifer Ann Attaway and her husband Robert of Augusta; two granddaughters, Carolyn Smith and Olivia Attaway; brothers, Ricky Smith and his wife Lauren of Decatur, Ala., Robert Smith and his wife Penny of Lewiston, Maine, and Danny Smith of Drummonds, Tenn.; sisters, Vivian Green of Millington, Tenn.; Betty Jo Jones of Drummonds, Tenn., and Kathy McDonald and her husband Gary of Blue Mountain, Miss.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Cherry Smith.

Additional survivors include: Dennis Broadwater and Michelle Smith Hicks.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
