SonGames set for First Baptist Vacation Bible School

The world will have to wait another three months for the Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, but the exciting SonGames will open here in Thomson in just a few days.

The Vacation Bible School of First Baptist Church of Thomson will be the site of this adventure as the SonGames run from 9 a.m. until noon June 7-11.

All children ages three years through sixth grade are invited to attend. The three-year-old children must have had their third birthday no later than Sept. 1, 2003.

Children can be pre-registered any time between now and June 7 by calling the church office (595-4252), through their Sunday School classes for those who attend FBC, or a few minutes before classes begin on Monday morning.

Children need to be dropped off at the covered drive through on the Post Office side parking lot between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. and picked up at the same location at noon.

Just like real life Olympic athletes, the children will enter the FBC Fellowship Hall each morning with their teams. They'll build team spirit as they design their own team banners and trade pins with members of other groups. There will be exciting global games, international snacks, and gold-medal crafts.

As the teams learn about the Olympics of the past and present, the children will discover that they can all be members of God's team, a team that is world-wide, a team made up of people who love God and seek to obey His will.

The theme of this year's VBS is "God's Team in Action: Paul's Adventures." Through the example of one of God's team members, the apostle Paul, SonGames athletes will learn the importance of being an active participant in doing God's work.

"Each year we look for a VBS program that teaches children the significance of having a strong faith. SonGames does just that and has the added benefit of showing them how they can encourage one another in the growth of that faith," said David Lambert, FBC Minister of Students/Christian Activities.

The theme and daily Bible stories will be emphasized at each of the rotations during the day: crafts, snacks, video, recreation, and Bible study. Each group will have guides who will lead them to each new location. This variety of activities is one of the aspects that makes each year's Vacation Bible School such a success.

For more information about SonGames, call the First Baptist church office at 595-4252.
