Local fishermen have a chance to win a bass fishing trip with J Todd Tucker. The raffle is sponsored by the Thomson-McDuffie County Convention and Visitors Bureau and will benefit the McDuffie Environmental Education Center.
The tourism board hopes to raise between $2,500 and $5,000 through the raffle to help MEEC construct an on-site educational building. Tickets are $10 each, and are available at the CVB office at the Thomson Depot. The drawing will be held on Aug. 2 at the Tom Watson Watermelon Festival. The winner will have the opportunity to spend a day fishing with Mr. Tucker in his boat at Clarks Hill Lake.
"It looks like a sweet deal to me," CVB board member Epp Wilson said at the last meeting. "It has a lot of synergy and cross-pollination in it."
J Todd Tucker is a professional bass angler who fishes the FLW and Bassmaster tours. He has been featured in various publications, on CNN as an expert source, and many other TV shows and ads.
McDuffie County is one of five counties in the Clarks Hill Partnership that now sponsors Mr. Tucker. His boat will soon bear the Clarks Hill Partnership logo that says "Fish Clarks Hill."
"I spoke with him this morning, and he told me they are working on the wrap right now, and he can't wait for us to see it," said Elizabeth Vance, the McDuffie CVB director.
The MEEC provides students in McDuffie and surrounding counties with outdoor classroom areas and hands-on lessons in ecology, wildlife, water, soils and forests.
