Welsh honored by peers at banquet

After more than four decades of coaching prep football in Georgia, Thomson High School's Luther Welsh has made it to full-circle honors by his peers.

In recognition of his 300th career victory, Coach Welsh was honored last weekend by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association, who inducted him into an elite circle - "The Circle of Achievement." The banquet honoring him and other coaches in various sports across the state was held Saturday at the Northwest Georgia Trade Center in Dalton.

Coach Welsh is now the 13th recipient of the honor. He joins fellow Thomson High School Coach Terry Holder, who was inducted into that elite group a few years ago for his success in baseball.
