LINCOLNTON, Ga. - Mrs. Edith "Carol" Carpenter, 73, entered into rest on Thursday, June 2, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 6, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Lincolnton United Methodist Church with Rev. John Pike and Rev. Jane Brooks officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta.
Mrs. Carpenter was a native of Indianapolis, Ind. and the daughter of the late Monroe and Matilda McHenry. She retired from Fort Gordon where she served as a Property Book Officer for the Women's Army Corps during the Korean War. She was a member of the Alice Warren Eastern Star Chapter #483, Lincolnton United Methodist Church and active in the Guild both in Lincolnton and Salem United Methodist Church in Thomson.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Leo B. Carpenter; one son, Monroe Lester Carpenter of Marietta; three daughters, Leona Carpenter Cook of Valdosta, Patricia Ann Carpenter Yount of Evans, and Christina Lynn Schumann of Greensboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tom McGee, Kinnie May, James Freeman, J.D. Hardway, Roger Whittaker, B.G. Smith, Jason Cook and Christopher Cook. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Alice Warren Eastern Star.
