Mt. Moriah Campground will be the beneficiary of proceeds from an auction slated Saturday at Barrow & Prescott, Inc., in Matthews. The event will raise funds for the 180th series of camp meeting services which begin July 12.
Viewing starts at 9 a.m. and the auction, conducted By D.O. Auction Co. & Associations, begins at 10 a.m.
A 7,200 sq. ft. grain warehouse is presently filled with hundreds of items that have been donated for the auction By area residents who love the campground, according to Karen Walden, vice president of the camp ground and organizer of the event.
"We've got stuff that's brand new, stuff that's old, and everything in between," she said. "And this is an absolute auction. Everything will be sold so there will definitely be some bargains on Saturday."
Antiques including dining room furniture, china and two wringer washers will be for sale, as well as many household items such as Christmas items, toys, books, bedding, collectables, a piano, wrought iron outdoor furniture, and much more. Commercial items such as an industrial mixer, floor cleaners and wall-mounted shelving are also on the auction block, as is a 1973 Volkswagen Trike.
Grain harvest around the area has begun, and Mrs. Walden explained that she is being evicted from the warehouse this weekend to make room for crop storage.
"Everything has got to go," she said. "Even if you don't want to buy anything, come have a good time with us. We'll have food and fun in a dinner-on-the-grounds atmosphere. You don't want to miss this."
Mt. Moriah's primary ministry has evolved over the years to include a residential camp which is attended By about 100 kids ages 8-16 in conjunction with the camp meeting services each year.
Funds from this event will allow the board to continue improving facilities and programs for and other ministries. Tax deductible donations will also be accepted this weekend.
