Blake and Gayle Meadows' yard was named Yard of the Month for June.

In 1993, Mr. Meadows' mother, Flora Meadows, gave the couple's new home a landscaping treatment, according to Ms. Meadows.
"It was a gift from her to go along with the new house," she said. "She knew she was dying from cancer and wanted this for us. She died a few months later. So the yard, and her favorite flower, the Pink Perfection camellia, which she loved so and which we grow in our yard, are memorials to her."
The couple's yard was recently chosen as the June Yard of the Month by the McDuffie Garden Council.
Ms. Meadows said her husband now spends a lot of time in the yard and on the "melon" list she has for him.
"He knows I like to have a neat yard and since he retired from Kingsley-Milliken, he has a good, lengthy honey-do list," she said laughing.
"But, I retired this year from teaching in Warren County and will be able to help out more than I have in the past."
