ELBERTON, Ga.- Mr. Dewey Frank Johnson, 83, of Elberton, husband of Alice Peppers Johnson, died Thursday, June 17, 2004.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 20, at Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Phillip Hart officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
Born in Elbert County he was a son of the late Paul Johnson and Lillie Saxon Johnson.
He was a member of Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church, a member of Gideons International, member of the Farm Bureau Board, a member of the Elbert County Fire Board, a Deacon of the Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church, and the church treasurer, a former Boy Scout Master, a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II where he retired as a major, one of the founding members of Nancy Hart Nursing Home, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Alice Peppers Johnson, one daughter, Linda J. Burden of Athens; two sons, Franky W. Johnson and David M. Johnson, both of Elberton; one sister, Ruby Carder of Thomson; one brother, Oscar Johnson of Elberton; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Landon Johnson, Lance Johnson, Shannon Johnson, Alan Holcomb, Jeff DeWitt, Ben Emery, Andy Dixon and Ric Dixon. Honorary pallbearers were Audie Cook and Millard Cook.
