Between W-2s and 1040 forms, Annie Bailey of Bailey's Tax Service has always dreamed about opening a restaurant.
"I am brand new at this, I've always been an income tax person," Miss Bailey said. "I enjoy cooking, I've always dreamed about opening a restaurant. It's something I dreamed about until it just happened."
Annie B's Country Kitchen opened June 15 in Harlem. The restaurant is an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring "anything Southern and everything home-made," such as chicken and dressing, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, peach cobbler and a salad bar.
Seafood is added to the buffet on Fridays and Saturdays. Miss Bailey said the restaurant also has a special kid's menu for the finicky young customers.
Miss Bailey is excited that she has a "real, certified chef in the kitchen," as well as Lisa Smith Rodriguez and Jeanette Cunningham, who previously served at Chalker's.
Miss Bailey will continue her income tax businesses in Elberton, Lincolnton and Thomson.
"I have good help, so I am able to have three tax offices and one restaurant," she said.
The restaurant is open from 6-10 a.m. for breakfast, and 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. for lunch, Monday through Saturday. Dinner is served from 4-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday. Prices range from $5.99-7.99 for the buffet, and $13.95 for the seafood buffet.
