Mr. James Donald Rivers, Sr.
President of Knox-Rivers Construction Co.

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. James Donald Rivers, Sr., 83, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 28, in the Thomson First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Kerr and Rev. Searcy Jackson officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Rivers was a native of Chesterfield County, S.C., but had resided in McDuffie County since 1951. He was a graduate of Clemson University with a degree in civil engineering. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He was a member of Thomson United Methodist Church.

Mr. Rivers was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Brigman Rivers, brother, Frank Lyles Rivers, and sisters, Kate Megan, Cannie Thomas, and Frances Adams.

Survivors include his sons, Charles Edwin Rivers and wife, Faye, of Atlanta, James D. Rivers, Jr. and wife, Martha, of Thomson, and David Franklin and wife, Jan, of Evans; and grandchildren Ashley Nicole Rivers, Matthew Lloyd Rivers, Heather Leigh Rivers, and Jackson Donald Rivers. Also, he is survived by brother, Dalton Rivers, and wife, Barbara, of Thomson. Additional survivors include cousin, Ruth Baxley, of Toomsboro, cousin, Caston Rivers, of Columbia, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Rivers also leaves behind very special friends Wyck Knox Jr., Harry Vaughn and Jimmy McDaniel, and very special caregivers Joanne and Barbara.

Pallbearers were Tommy Phelps, Bob Hughes, Merritt Stuckey, Richard Hudson, Ronnie Johnson and Kerry Lane.
