McDuffie Regional Medical Center CEO Doug Keir publicly praised hospital staff for their assistance and cooperation during the June 17 evacuation of Thomson Manor Nursing Home last month due to an electrical problem at the nursing home.
Fifteen patients of the nursing home were transferred to the local hospital during the power outage. Patients were also transferred to Maxwell Elementary School.
Mr. Keir thanked the EMS personnel, nursing staff and registration staff who were called in to assist. The cardiopulmonary staff made sure that all patients were on oxygen and the environmental staff and dietary staff stayed over to make sure everyone had eaten and checked with the nursing staff for any further needs.
Patients were transferred back to Thomson Manor the morning of June 18. Special thanks were also extended to the McDuffie County School System, law enforcement, and fire services personnel. Mr. Keir stressed to the board that an incident such as this is just one example of why the hospital is needed in this community.
