There are two candles on The Mirror's cake this week, and I couldn't be happier. The flood of positive comments about this paper that I had a small part in creating have not let up since our journey began in the summer of 2003.
I have to thank my home county for accepting this newspaper unconditionally when we put out our first issue and for continuing to support us in everything we do. The love we sent out has definitely come back to us many times over.
Through covering McDuffie County, I have come to know so many wonderful people. Some of them I dread calling because I know my weekly interviews must get aggravating (Charlie Newton, Mark Petersen, etc.). Others I may have only talked to once or twice, but by meeting them my life has been enriched (Roger Reid, Eddie Lee Ivery, etc.)
All in all, my time at The Mirror has been a blast. Helping give the people I grew up with a newspaper they can be proud of has been a huge source of satisfaction. I'm just glad I could be a part of only the beginning of many more great things to come.
