Kelley Wills is the 2005 recipient of the Thomson Kiwanis Scholarship, which was awarded during the Kiwanis Club meeting at the Depot Monday, July 11.
Miss Wills, the daughter of Thomson Kiwanis member Frank Wills, is a graduate of Briarwood Academy and plans to attend the University of Georgia.
Also during Monday's meeting, Ted Duzenski - the vice president of Operations at Augusta Tech - said the local campus has 376 students at this present time, which is down from 401 at this time last year.
He said the local campus hopes to attract more students with an expansion in four areas - Healthcare Services, Early Child Care, Network/CISCO Certification Program, and Management Supervision. The Thomson campus is also investigating expanding a dual and joint program with the high school, and adding a cosmetology program.
The Columbia County facility of Augusta Tech is in the works. Mr. Duzenski said they are awaiting bond sales and hope to begin construction later this month. Construction of the 22,000 square foot facility in the Horizon South area, across from John Deere, is expected to take two years.
