Zaxby's officials estimated last week that the newly constructed Thomson store will open on July 26, according to the company's Director of Operations Jeff Kalteux.
Mr. Kalteux said that some problems with the site have delayed the opening a bit, but the problem appears to be solved.
"We're excited; we're very excited," he said. "Thomson seemed like a pretty good fit as far as the community for what we were doing, as well there was a good site available, so it was a combination of quite a few issues."
Hiring at the restaurant has been going on for the last several weeks, and according to Mr. Kalteux, it's already wrapped up.
"We've already hired between 40 and 50 people for that location. By the time we open, we'll have roughly 51 crew people on staff as well as three to four salaried managers," he said.
He added that Zaxby's has a history of serving small towns and becoming entrenched in the community.
"We've got a pretty good presence out in the part of the state, out towards Augusta and such," he said. "We've had a lot of good luck in places like Thomson, and we've done real well in small towns like that. We get really involved in those communities. A lot of our managers tend to move into those communities."
