McDuffie night with the Augusta GreenJackets is Saturday

The crowd will be filled with familiar faces on Saturday evening, when the Augusta GreenJackets and the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce will play host to Thomson-McDuffie County night at the GreenJackets stadium.

The two entities have partnered to offer group packages and special pricing for seats for the game between the GreenJackets and the Hagerstown Suns. Chamber of Commerce administrative assistant Angela Mance said several local companies have purchased ticket packages, including the city and the county. Ruthie Thomas, the Human Resource Coordinator for the county, said approximately 30 county employees are taking advantage of the offer.

"I was surprised, because last year, I worked on the project and couldn't get hardly anybody to go," Ms. Thomas said. "We are actually getting a much better turn out this year. We've come a long way."

Thomson celebrity Eddie Lee Ivery has been warming up to throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the game. A former running back for the Green Bay Packers, Mr. Ivery is now a member of the McDuffie County Board of Education faculty as the parent involvement coordinator and part of the high school's football coaching staff. The evening will also feature cartoon characters SpongeBob SquarePants, Scooby Doo and Buzz Lightyear.

Ticket packages are available for groups of 10 or more. According to a letter from the GreenJackets Baseball Club, the package includes an Augusta GreenJackets baseball cap for all members of the group, recognition on the scoreboard, free game program and parking for all members, and game program recognition. Group ticket packages may be purchased from the club by calling 706-736-7889 or from the Thomson McDuffie Chamber of Commerce at the Depot, 706-597-1000.
