Recreation department announces winners of local youth golf tournament

A recent youth golf tournament, featuring both girls and boys, was held at Thomson Country Club and was described as "highly successful," by local officials.

"I thought it was one of the best golf tournaments that we've ever held," said Coach Von Hall, who served as golf instructor for the Thomson-McDuffie County Recreation and Leisure Services. "The kids seemed to enjoy themselves and that was what the tournament was all about."

Placing first in the Pro-Team Division was the team of Kyle Dillon, Madison Earl, Kevin Love and Tres Poss with a score of 39 for their nine-hole play.

Finishing in second place in that same division was the team of Ashton Wiley, Cordele Fite, Zach Hilson and Dalton Lyons - posting an overall score of 40.

In the Semi-Pro Division, the winning team consisted of Alex Hyman, Travis Pate and Chase Patterson with a score of 26. That particular age group played a six-hole tournament.

There were two teams that tied each other for second place in that same division. One team consisted of Justin Boutwell, Bo Swann and Cam Swann. The other team, meanwhile, was made up of Austin Bailey, Mycala Hilson and Morgan Earl. Both of those teams posted identical scores of 28.

"We had a lot of parent support out on the golf course all season and I want to say how much I really appreciated it," Coach Hall said. "I think they enjoyed it as much as their kids did."
