Boys & Girls Club members Gear Up for the Future through program

The Thomson Unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Augusta has selected six members to attend the Gear Up for the Future Program at Georgia Southern University and University of Georgia. Among the students chosen to attend are: Garrison Kendrick, Deontae Stephens, Jedediah McCauley, Nekia McNair, Shequitta Johnson and Tamara Stephens.

The purpose of the Gear Up for the Future Program is to expose middle and high school students to college life and career opportunities in order to increase their awareness of possibilities for the future.

The young men attended Georgia Southern University July 7 through July 10. These students were given a tour of the campus and met currently enrolled students of Georgia Southern. Several other colleges were in attendance for a college fair. Students were also given the opportunity to interact with members from Boys & Girls Clubs across Georgia.

The young ladies will travel to University of Georgia July 22 through July 25. The ladies will be given the opportunity to attend similar programs as well as swim at the UGA pool and attend a teen dance at the Ritz in Athens.
