The son of a country music icon will play a free concert Friday followed by a worship service Sunday at a Martinez church.
The Rev. Jimmy Snow, son of the late legendary Grand Ole Opry star Hank Snow, will headline a gospel concert beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at the Purvis Community School on Georgia Highway 17 between Thomson and Wrens.
He will follow that performance Sunday with a 10 a.m. concert at Bible Fellowship Church, which meets at the Belair Conference Center, on Jimmie Dyess Parkway in Martinez, said Bible Fellowship Pastor Randy Byrd.
The elder Snow was a mentor to Elvis Presley and such country stars as Johnny Cash. The younger Snow will preach about his life in show business and his choice to enter the ministry, the Rev. Byrd said.
"It's very entertaining and very spiritually rewarding," the Rev. Byrd said of Snow's music and message. Snow also will present many memorabilia from his travels with Presley, other famous secular performers and his 30-year career as host of the Grand Ole Gospel at the Opry, the Rev. Byrd said.
The Byrd Family gospel singers also will perform. Each performance is free, but love offerings will be accepted. For more information, call Bible Fellowship Church at (706) 651-1971.
