There were fewer participants in this year's Summer Reading Program at the Thomson-McDuffie Library, but they proved to be voracious readers.

There were 709 children who registered for this year's program, which was a slight decrease from the 2005 program which had 723 registered participants. The program wrapped up Saturday, July 22.
This summer, 495 children read at least 10 books, and the total read by all was 12,694. This was an increase from 2005 which registered 11,186 books read.
Below are the results for 2006:
Reading 100 or more books: Kimberly Greene, 500; Rebecca Greene, 500; Seth Marlow, 142; Benxavier Crawford, 139; Haley Harrison, 123; and Abbi Huff, 100.
Reading 50-99 books: Daxton Kent, 65; Cameron Nicely, 61; Antwon Gilmore, 60 Georgia Kate Kent, 60; Sophia Langham, 60; Macie Hunt, 56; Treasure Lowe, 56; Mary Chandler Echols, 55; Kiarra Gant, 52; and Logan Emory, 50.

A total of 42 children read 25-29 books, 419 participants read 11-24 books, and 18 readers finished 10 books.
