The annual Thomson Company Reunion will be Friday, Aug. 19, at the Depot. All past employees and retirees are invited to come and bring a covered dish. Margaret Thompson, reunion coordinator, said "it's always fun to see people that we worked with, especially since we don't have any ties at all anymore with the Thomson Company."
Rubye Schrader remembers when she began working at the company in 1937; she was "elated to have a job and an income of nine cents per hour." She said that time was in the midst of The Depression, so there were no jobs available for women except at the Thomson Company.
"In the earlier years, we were all like family - close knit - enjoying our work time together, sharing our good times and bad, sympathizing in troubled times and rejoicing in happy times," Mrs. Schrader said. "We were bonded in love and friendship that has lasted until this day, 68 years later."
Mrs. Thompson said the reunion began in the 1980's for retirees. When the company closed in 1996, the reunion changed to include all employees.
"It's a long story and a good history and we are glad that we can all keep it going," said Mrs. Thompson, who worked as a Quality Inspector for 43 years.
Mrs. Thompson said the reunion begins at 5 p.m., and the covered dish dinner will be served around 6 p.m. She said a program will follow the dinner, but the entertainment has not yet been confirmed. For more information, call Mrs. Thompson at 595-3174.
