Mr. George Gibson Richards
Retired V.A. Regional Office

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. George Gibson Richards, 85, beloved husband of Mrs. Bernice T. Richards, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 in the V. A. Medical Center in Augusta.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, in the Sweetwater Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Garvin, Dr. Richard Dendler and Dr. Ron Drawdy officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Richards was a native of Augusta, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was retired from the V.A. Regional Office in Atlanta. He was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, having served on the U.S.S. Lexington and participating in seven campaigns in the Pacific, two campaigns in the Aleutian Islands and the naval battle at the Coral Sea.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice T. Richards, Thomson; three sisters, Mary Jane Locklear, Thomson, Camilla R. Benson, Greer, S.C., and Frances Jordan, North Augusta; two brothers, Jack L. Richards, North Augusta and E.K. Richards, Thomson; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Charles Wallace, Raymond Everage, Rex Allen, Jerry Dunn, Doug Smith, and Chad Smith.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
