THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral service for Retired SSG Emanuel M. Jackson, Jr., 71, of Thomson, was held on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at 3 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. John W. Smalley serving as eulogist. Interment with full military honors was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
He was a retired SSG with the U.S. Army where he received numerous awards and citations: The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal (5 Campaigns), The Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, The Meritorious Unit Citation, 3 Oversea Service Bars, The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), and The Good Conduct Medal. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6672 and the Vanderhorst C.M.E. Church, where he was chairman of the Steward Board.
Survivors include his wife, Dwellie D. Jackson, Thomson; two sons, Chris (Sheila) Jackson, Bakersfield, Calif. and Emanuel (Valeria) Jackson, Pensacola, Fla.; three daughters, Phyllis (Mike) Howard, Gwen (Albert) Jones, all of Dallas, Texas, and Deb Jackson, Atlanta; 4 stepsons, John (Fredia) Demons, Augusta, Eddie Demons, Grovetown, Charles (Laura) Demons, and James (Beverly) Demons, all of Augusta; two stepdaughters, Betty (James) Jones, Joyce M. Demons, all of Augusta; one brother, Knolah (Nita) Jackson, Muskogee, Okla.; several brothers- in-law, sisters-in-law; numerous grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.
