Peebles set to open doors today

The revamping of a Thomson store is complete. Peebles, the store formerly known as Moore's, opens today with a fresh new look but the same smiling faces.

The Peebles chain recently purchased Moore's and updated the Thomson store while leaving the staff in place. Local dignitaries will speak at the store's grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting today at 8:45 a.m.

"People will recognize most of the brands as merchandise that we've had before and that they've seen at others stores," said Phillip Pirkle, manager of the department store. "...The same folks will be working here, and we're real excited about the way things are turning out."

After receiving a face lift that includes paint, new fixtures and a new sign, the store made just a few changes to go along with the new name.

According to Mr. Pirkle, the biggest difference is in the cosmetics department. There will be a wider variety of fragrances and lotions available, and makeup will be in the store soon.

The home department will no longer have furnishings but will include more home decorating items. There will be no cookware and bedding available. Other than that, it's just a difference in presentation.

"It's not really an upgrade in merchandise. It's more an upgrade in the way we present it," Mr. Pirkle said. "We'll still have the good stuff we've always had before, but we're presenting it in a little bit more exciting way."

At the grand opening, the first 100 customers will receive prizes. Registration for drawings will also begin, three of which are large gift certificates to the store.

Opening specials will be available for customers for one day only.

Peebles will regularly be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 pm. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
