In an effort to raise money for the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation, the fire department is sponsoring a portrait contest featuring photographs of local fire and EMS personnel and their families.

From now until Oct. 14, the collection of portraits will be placed at various businesses, so local residents can vote for two titles - Favorite Fireman and Cutest Picture. Each vote is $1. Local resident Ivy Land took the photos, and firefighters paid a $10 fee to enter the contest.

The voting culminates on Oct. 14 during the annual Emergency Services Awareness Day, which is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Wal-Mart.
