Former Thomson football great Ray Guy was officially inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, In., on August 12-13. He is the first punter to be awarded that honor which was announced in April.
Mr. Guy was a member of two THS state football championship teams in the '60s. He then went on to receive All-American honors at Southern Mississippi and was drafted by the Oakland Raiders where he played in three Super Bowls and seven Pro Bowls. He has also been inducted into the National High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Work may end by Sept. 30
According to a spokesperson with the Georgia Department of Transportation, construction on U.S. Highway 278 / State Route 12 from the Winn Dixie shopping center to the Warren County line will be completed by Sept. 30.
The repaving of the 5.9 mile section of roadway should be completed by the end of the week, but other pieces of the project - such as striping - will take longer to complete.
