Events should offer recycling opportunities
Letter to the Editor
I would like to thank the Watson-Brown Foundation for organizing and making the Watermelon Festival available to the community on Saturday, Aug. 21. It was a fun, well-organized free event for the whole family and participation was good. There were varied activities for everyone to enjoy, and if someone missed it, hopefully, they will have the opportunity to attend next year.
I have just one suggestion for the Foundation, as well as for any group sponsoring an activity involving a large number of participants, such as the Blind Willie Blues Festival, the annual Chamber-sponsored Beach Blast, etc.: Please place recycle receptacles near trash containers so that we, as a community, can support the City/County's effort to recycle. This will help us serve as an example to our children that we must respect our environment, that we can re-use what we have and that we all have an opportunity to help conserve our space. It is a shame to see so many plastic water bottles and soda cans tossed in the trash to occupy space in the landfill when they can be re-used.
Thanks, again, Watson-Brown Foundation, for a most enjoyable morning.
