AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Leo Alalof, 95, entered into rest on Monday August 18, 2008, at University Hospital.
Graveside services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rabbi Robert G. Klensin officiating.
Pallbearers were Ronald Altman, Matt Bronson, Christopher Gay, Malcolm Estroff, Dr. Richard Melcher and Dr. Jeffery Broder.
Mr. Alalof was born in Salonica, Greece, and grew up in New York. He later lived in Hartford, Ct., for 38 years and Orlando, Fla., for 20 years before coming to Augusta. He served in the U.S. Army with service in WWII, a decorated veteran awarded the Croix de Guerre (French Medal of Honor). Later, he had a dedicated career with G. Fox and Company for 35 years. Mr. Alalof was a member of the Knights of Pythias and Congregation Children of Israel.
Survivors include his wife of 72 1/2 years, Sarah N. Alalof, of Augusta; son and daughter-in-law, M. David (Meryl) Alalof, of Martinez; daughter, Susan Alalof, of Thomson; brother, David Alalof, Las Vegas, Nev.; grandsons, Seth H. (Fatima) Alalof, of Kennesaw, Ga., Scott Z. (Jessica) Alalof, of St. Augustine, Fla., Preston (Jana) Feiler, of Savannah; granddaughter, Risa (Chris) Gay, of Augusta and seven great-grandchildren.
