APPLING, Ga. - Mr. Tommie Mathis, beloved husband of Bessie Lee Sanders Mathis, entered into rest August 21, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Mathis was born Oct. 18, 1914, in Bartow County, Ga. He was a World War II veteran, operated Tommie Mathis Wholesale Candy out of North Augusta, S.C. for 35 years and retired to his small farm in Appling. He was also a member of Sharon Baptist Church.
Additional survivors include a son, Holley H. Mathis and his wife, Elaine, of Appling; a daughter, Pamela M. Foot and her husband, David, of Blairsville, Ga.; grandchildren, Michael Smith-Foot of Covington, Thomas Smith of Appling, and Andrew Foot of Crawfordville; three great-grandchildren, Eli, Avary, and Asa Smith-Foot.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2007, at Sharon Baptist Church in Appling, with Rev. Andy Collins officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
