Commission chairman thanks community for Sonny support

I am writing this note to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who had a hand in making Governor Perdue's ice cream social on Aug. 23 a hugely successful event. This was truly a team effort. Thank you to the 74 sponsors of the event. Thank you to the folks that mailed out the invitations, called and reminded everyone to come, provided the building, provided the tables and chairs, made ice cream, baked cakes and cookies, did the decorating, parked the cars, manned the sign-in tables, set up the sound system, provided the drinks, served the food, and did the clean up after the night was over. I wish I could name everyone individually. If I tried, however, I would miss someone that truly made a difference in the event.

Thank you to Congressman Norwood, Senator Whitehead, and Representative Hudson for helping with the program for Governor Perdue. Each of you did a great job in making the Governor feel welcome and letting him know how proud east central Georgia is of the job he is doing. There have been more than a few comments about how nice the program was.

This was not just a McDuffie County event. I very much need to thank the people from Columbia, Glascock, Hancock, Jefferson, Lincoln, Talliaferro, Warren and Wilkes counties that worked very hard to bring people from their counties to show support for our Governor.

Last, and most importantly, I want to thank the 400-plus people that came out and made this ice cream social for our Governor a huge success. Some of you drove quite a way to get here; some of you had to get homework done early, and some of you had to leave Wednesday night church early. Each and every one of you made a difference. Ray Charles had Georgia on his mind. Sonny has east central Georgia on his mind after Wednesday night and is not likely to forget it anytime in the near future.

Thanks again for helping me put on a successful event for the governor.
