Rev. Stanford Shank, Jr.
THOMSON, Ga. - Rev. Stanford Shank, Jr., one of the few remaining combat veterans of World War II, was born September 8, 1923, in McDuffie County. He was a lifelong member of First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Appling and a retiree of Georgia Iron Works, Grovetown.
Survivors include a devoted wife, Mrs. Cora Jane Edwards Shank of Thomson; two daughters, Mrs. Janice (Henry) Mays of Jonesboro, Mrs. Sarah (Edwin) Jenkins of Hephzibah; three sisters, Mrs. Gracie (Alonzo) Goss of Atlanta, Ms. Delia Pointer of Ft. Meyer, Fla., Ms. Effie Lee Thomas, Juniper, Fla.; one brother, Mr. Raymond Shank of Ft. Meyer, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Mr. Forest Lewis of Atlanta; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services for Rev. Shank were held Saturday August 27, 2005, 4 p.m. at First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Appling.
