County and school board millage rates unchanged
The McDuffie County Commission met last Thursday to adopt the 2004 property tax millage rate. The Board of Education also met on Monday for the same purpose. Both groups left the rates the same as last year.
For the county government, the rate in the unincorporated areas will remain at 7.8 mills. The rate will stay at 8.5 in the incorporated areas. For the BOE, the rate will remain at 15.3 after the 0.8 raise from last year.
City of Thomson holiday closings
City of Thomson government offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6 to celebrate Labor Day. Citizens are reminded not to place their garbage or recycle containers at curbside on Monday.
Garbage service for Monday will be on Tuesday, Sept. 7, to include recycle pickup for citizens residing in south Thomson only.
If an emergency arises on Sept. 6, citizens should call 595-6133 or 595-2145 to arrange repairs of utility (water, sewer, natural gas) services. Police and fire departments will be on the job as usual.
