After a tournament in Jefferson County and the first week of region action, the Lady Bulldogs are currently 1-3 overall, but undefeated in region play. Thomson High played three games last week, but final results were not available at press time.

"In our season-opening tournament, the entire team did a lot of great things," said Coach Cody. "After the several days of competition, we came back to our facility and worked on areas that we were weak in and where we made mistakes in."

In the first game of the tournament, the Lady Bulldogs were defeated by West Laurens 12-5. Mary Beth Blasingame went the entire distance on the mound, giving up four walks and striking out two batters.

In the second game of the tournament, the Lady Warriors of Jefferson County narrowly defeated Thomson 5-3.Shannon Williams pitched four innings for THS, before Blasingame came in as relief. Samantha "Tennessee" Palmer was the team's leading hitter with two singles. Nike Taylor added another single.

Thomson's final game in the tournament was a 7-4 loss to the Lady Rebels of Hephzibah.

Holly Coleman was the starting pitcher. She pitched three innings, before being relieved by Blasingame in the fourth inning.

Callie Gilmer and Taylor led the Lady Bulldog hitters with two for four performances each. Casey Brooks went one for three at the plate.

"On our roster this year, we are carrying two freshman players that have contributed a lot to this team, and especially in this tournament," Coach Cody said. "Casey Brooks and Nicole Usry will be forces to be reckoned with in upcoming games for us."

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Richmond Academy in their first region contest of the year 8-2 only a few days after the tournament.

Palmer was the leading hitter for Thomson with a single and a homerun. She was followed by Shaina Williams, Stephanie Gibson and Taylor with one single each.

Blasingame was the winning pitcher, as she went the entire distance on the mound. In seven innings, she struck-out five Richmond batters and only walked four.

"Samantha had a big game for us at the plate, along with Shaina on the base paths. Shaina stole three bases and scored two runs," Coach Cody said.
