Ret. SFC Jonas "J.B." Alley
Retired U.S. Army

DEARING, Ga. - Ret. SFC Jonas "J.B." Alley, husband of Betty Powell Alley, entered into rest on Monday, August 27, 2007.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2007, at Dearing Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Jerry Rockefeller officiating. Interment was in Harlem Memorial Cemetery with full military honors accorded.

Mr. Alley was born in Forrest City, N.C., and was of the Saux Indian heritage. He had retired as sergeant first class from the U.S. Army. During his military service, he served as a door-gunner and survived three helicopter crashes while serving three tours in Vietnam. Mr. Alley was the recipient of numerous military medals and awards and was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife Betty P. Alley, Dearing; one son Jeff Alley, Thomson; two step children Sandra Newman, Grovetown, and Keith Norton, Dearing; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were members of the military. Honorary pallbearers were Chris Duckworth, Jeanne Duckworth, Mitch Skvarca, Jeremy Daman, Ricky Jones, and Brian Hathaway.

Starling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
