Mrs. Constance M. Maxwell

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Constance M. Maxwell, wife of the late T. Allan Maxwell, Jr., entered into rest on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at her residence.

A native of Rhode Island, she had been a resident of Augusta since 1946. Mrs. Maxwell was the daughter of the late Helen and Kenneth Miller. She was a member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Augusta. She was a graduate of the Junior College of Augusta and attended the University of Georgia and Georgia State College for Women. She taught kindergarten at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, Episcopal Day School and Temple Kindergartens. She was very active in civic and service organizations in Augusta. She was president of the Augusta Junior Women's Club and went on to serve as Junior Director of the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs. She was founding member of the Metropolitan Women's Club and served many different positions with the United Way, Cancer Society, Augusta Civic Ballet and the Arthritis Foundation among others. Mrs. Maxwell was named to the Governor's Commission on the Status of Women, by Gov. Carl Sanders. Mrs. Maxwell was a member of the Augusta Country Club and the Azalea Garden Club. She loved golf, gardening, bridge and sewing.

She is survived by her children, a daughter: Debbie Maxwell Hunt and husband, Winston Hunt of Thomson; son: Kenneth A. Maxwell of Augusta; grandchildren: Heather Hunt Palmer and husband, Lyn Palmer of Martinez, Jennifer Hunt Vasquez and husband, Scott Vasquez of North Augusta; Thomas Allan Maxwell II of Asheville, N.C.; William Middleton Maxwell of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandson, Brenton Haze Vasquez, and a dear friend, William T. Roberts; her brothers: Roger W. Miller and wife, Rae Miller of Lakeland, Fla., and George A. Miller and wife, Nancy Miller of North Augusta.

A memorial service was held at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church Thursday, August 30, 2007, at 11 a.m. Interment followed in the church garden.

In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, 3321 Wheeler Road Road, Augusta, GA 30909, Trinity Hospice of Augusta, 2600 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904 or the charity of your choice.
