Thomson man faces charges after early Sunday wreck

A Thomson man is lucky to be alive after losing control and flipping his Jeep on Sandhill Road in McDuffie County early Sunday.

John Allen Clark, 43, of the 3800 block of Chalker Road, apparently walked away from the wreck with only some minor lacerations, according to Deputy Alan Baldwin of the McDuffie County Sheriff's Department. The whereabouts of Mr. Clark were not known until about 4:30 a.m. when Deputy Baldwin found him at the residence of his girlfriend.

After establishing that Mr. Clark was the driver of the Jeep Wrangler, Deputy Baldwin arrested him on charges of driving under the influence, Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for possession of marijuana, Violation of the Georgia Open Container Law, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to maintain lane.

Mr. Clark was taken to the McDuffie County Law Enforcement Center and jailed on the multiple charges. He still was awaiting bond on Sunday afternoon.

Deputies Baldwin and Robert Hoffman responded to the wreck call after someone called it into a 911 dispatcher.
