Former Atlanta Falcons punter Chris Mohr worked out with the Briarwood Buccaneers Monday afternoon.
Mohr, a Briarwood graduate and father of Briarwood player Garrett Mohr, is assisting Coach Blake Duncan is getting the team ready for a big game this Friday night.
The Bucs travel to Louisville this week, taking on the Thomas Jefferson Academy Jaguars. Mohr's son, Garrett, is a freshman quarterback for the team and really stepped up two weeks ago during the Robert Toombs game after the team's other two QB's were injured early in the game. Mohr and Duncan were out on the field with the team Monday afternoon, going through plays Thomas Jefferson runs and mapping out strategies to stop them in their tracks.
"We have to stop their big play," Coach Duncan told the players. "TJ is a big play team, we have to keep the big plays down and throw them off their game."
Keeping mistakes down is another focus of the team.
"Slow and steady, slow and steady," Coach Duncan told the team over and over. "Don't press, play smart, don't do anything stupid."
Throwing is not a plus for the Jaguars, Coach Duncan said.
"We want to play man-to-man," he said. "When the ball is thrown, it will be short and we need to be there on top of that player."
Game time in Louisville is 7:30 p.m. You can hear streaming audio live at www.mcduffiemirror.com and on WTWA 1561 AM.
The Bucs travel to Statesboro Sept. 28 to take on Bulloch Academy, one of the biggest and toughest teams they play.
