Mass Immunization Drill planned

The East Central Health District and the McDuffie County Health Department will conduct a Mass Immunization Drill on Oct. 2-4.

The purpose of the drill is to test the capacity to provide mass immunizations in the event of a biological disaster.

Conducting this drill throughout the district helps to test, measure and validate the district and county plans pertaining to a pandemic influenza event and the district's response.

They are encouraging families to get vaccinated against seasonal human influenza (flu) and pneumococcal disease. Illnesses associated with these diseases can be life threatening.

Participants will be educated about Avian (bird flu) and pandemic influenza.

They will receive a packet of educational materials include a Pandemic Flu Planning Checklist for Individuals and Families.

Please contact the local health department for hours of operation and cost of these vaccines.

Health department clinic hours for all three days, October 2-4, are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
