New Hope Baptist Church of Thomson is beginning a support group called "Celebrate Recovery." Beginning Sept. 29, the group will meet Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. at the church. Pastor Allen Holbrook said there may be some small costs for materials or meals.
"It's pretty much a drop-in, it's for anybody, so come as much as you can," Rev. Holbrook said.
The program is written by Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life. On the program's website, Mr. Warren states, "You've heard the expression that 'time heals all wounds.' Unfortunately as a pastor, I frequently talk with people who are still carrying hurts from 30 or 40 years ago...time only extends the pain if the problem isn't dealt with."
The program is a 10-week series of messages, developed into workbooks. Rev. Holbrook said the program is "a Bible-based support group for people who have drug, alcohol, and marital problems, divorce issues, smoking, dipping, all that stuff."
New Hope is located at 1424 Cobbham Road. Call 595-2279 for more information.
