Georgia SAFE plans foster parents orientation

Georgia SAFE is opening its doors for foster parent recruitment. Georgia SAFE is a non-profit therapeutic foster care placement agency that recruits and trains families who are willing to open their hearts and homes to needy children.

Children placed by Georgia SAFE come from all counties in Georgia. The Department of Family and Children Services, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and public and private mental health agencies refer the children placed with the Georgia SAFE program. They place children with therapeutic needs from birth to age 18.

Georgia SAFE needs single parent and two parent homes in the Burke, Columbia, Lincoln, McDuffie, and Richmond County areas. There will be an orientation lunch and learn meeting held on Oct. 1 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Georgia SAFE office located at 4424 Columbia Road, Suite B, Martinez, Georgia 30907. This is a no obligation meeting to learn about the program and the need in Georgia for foster parents to care for Georgia's neediest children. It is the first step in becoming a certified foster parent home.

The children that Georgia SAFE serves are unable to live at home with their families due to abuse, abandonment, and/or neglect. They also experience emotional and/or behavioral problems and have often experienced difficulty with the educational or child welfare system. Children in Georgia SAFE homes are of all different races. There is a special need for families willing to take children over the age of 10. There are currently fifty children in our care and thirty eight active therapeutic foster families.

For those families or individuals who do not feel they can make the full-time commitment to parent a child in their home, Georgia SAFE can still use your help! The agency would like to request community donations and help in providing Christmas gifts to our children and wonderful foster parents. New toys and clothing items of all sizes, monetary donations, and gift certificates would be greatly appreciated. These gifts will be distributed to some of the most deserving individuals in the community and will bring some joy into a child's life who may not have had much joys prior to coming into care. Can you help a child experience a memorable Christmas? If so, please call or come by our office. A Georgia SAFE representative can even arrange to pick up your donation if you would like.

For more information, call 706-210-3435 or stop by the Georgia SAFE office.
