The McDuffie County schools have each chosen their Teacher of the Year, and all will vie for County Teacher of the Year in October.
According to Dr. Barry O'Neill, assistant superintendent of curriculum of McDuffie County Schools, each teacher was chosen by their peers at the school where they teach. On Oct. 20, the teachers will be interviewed by a panel of three judges from "outside our system" who will then choose one Teacher of the Year for the county.
The judges will base their decision on responses to an application provided by the state, test results, and an interview. During the interview, Dr. O'Neill said the judges will be looking for the teacher's individual philosophies and activities.
The McDuffie County Teacher of the Year will be announced at a banquet honoring all the teachers on Oct. 25 at Belle Meade Country Club.
McDuffie Teachers of the Year are: Ann Pereda - Thomson High School, Neal Tam - Thomson Middle School, Jennifer Eriksen - Thomson Elementary School, Dr. Jerry Snider - Norris Elementary School, Elizabeth Evans - Dearing Elementary School, and Jennifer Sandifer - Maxwell Elementary School.
