Thinking pink as the days go by...

Monday-Friday, Oct. 20-24

Exercise for Pink week at the Thomson Family Y. The local community is invited to try out the Family Y facility for a donation of $5 for each daily visit. All money goes to breast cancer research.

Wednesday, Oct. 22

Pilates for Pink and Spinning for Pink from 7:30-8:30 p.m. The Thomson Family Y is offering two classes. Participants pay a small donation at the door, and all funds are given to breast cancer research.

Thursday, Oct. 23

The Thomson-McDuffie Health Department is sponsoring a booth outside of Wal-Mart for breast cancer awareness.

Saturday, Oct. 25

"Making a Better Me" from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Thomson-McDuffie Health Department, Greenway Street.

Co-sponsored by the health department, the cooperative extension service and the American Cancer Society, the day will feature a brief cooking and nutrition class and free brunch and transportation from the health department to the McDuffie Regional Medical Center for a mammogram.

There will be a segment on breast and cervical education, a clinical breast exam, and free mammograms to those who qualify. Those who have insurance also will receive a mammogram.

A free brunch will be available, with samples of the dishes cooked in the cooking class. Participants will receive a free binder of recipes to take home.

The health department will not be open to the public during this time.

Thursday, Nov. 3

"Look Good...Feel Better" workshop from 5-7 p.m. at McDuffie Regional Medical Center. The session is free to female cancer patients who live in Warren, McDuffie, Lincoln and Wilkes counties, and includes a skin care and makeup program and demonstrations on hair/wig techniques, taught by a licensed cosmetologist. Each participant will receive a free gift kit of full-size, name brand cosmetics. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
