Hughes marries Anthony at First Baptist Church

Katie Nelle Hughes and Jeremy Richard Anthony were united in marriage on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Thomson. Rev. Joshua David Hughes, brother of the bride, officiated the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. David Carroll Hughes and Mrs. Linda Hughes of Thomson. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Crockett Hughes, Jr., of Thomson and the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn Emmett Nash of Washington.

The groom is the son of Mr. Richard Francis Anthony and Mrs. Eileen Anthony of Rome. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Francis Anthony of Breese, Ill., and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Aloisius Coughlin of Cairo, N.Y.

Emily Gilmer Reese, lifelong friend of the bride, of Thomson, was maid of honor. She wore a tea length organdy dress in dusty rose with ivory trim and ivory ribbon at the waist.

Bridesmaids were Mary Watkins Preston, college roommate of the bride, Winder, Ga.; Faith Eileen Anthony, sister of the groom, Rome, Ga.; Jacleen Rose Anthony, sister of the groom, Atlanta; and Janeen Rita Anthony, sister of the groom, Atlanta. The bridesmaids' dresses were identical to that of the maid of honor. They carried smaller, hand-tied bouquets identical to the bride's bouquet of "Anna" and "porcelina pink" roses and green hydrangea wrapped with silk ribbons. All of the bride's attendants wore ribbon and pearl cluster necklaces and double stud pearl earrings which were gifts from the bride.

Best man was Adam Parsons Thomas, college roommate of the groom, of Charleston, West Virginia. He wore a black tuxedo, two-button, black vest with black bowtie, ivory wing tip collar shirt with rose boutonniere of Vendela roses.

Groomsmen were Brian Preston Martin, friend of the groom, Augusta; Justin Clark Pollard, friend of the groom, Rome, Ga.; Michael David Jones, friend of the groom, Dahlonega, Ga.; and Adam Ferrell Hoover, friend of the groom, Augusta. Their attire was identical to that of the Best Man.

The bride, given in the marriage by her father, was lovely in an ivory silk satin organza strapless ballgown with satin ribbon at the waist and on the tulle skirt with a chapel train. Her veil was ivory silk netting with a headpiece of pearls. Cecelia Howell designed a hand-tied bouquet of "Anna" roses and "porcelina pink" roses and green hydrangea with ivory silk ribbons.

The groom chose a black tuxedo, two-button with black vest and black bow tie, ivory wing tip collar shirt. He wore a single rose boutonniere of "Vendela" cream rose.

Organist was Della Ruth Johnson of Gainesville and readers were Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Robinson Baskin of Rome. Guest attendants were Dr. and Mrs. Charles Robert Hughes, Jr., Daniel Hughes, Megan Ruehle and Cleve Poston.

After the wedding, a reception was held in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church of Thomson. The couple spent their honeymoon in Sapphire, N.C., and are now residing in Augusta.
